iOS + Android customer apps, restaurateur web dashboard, dispatch and pickup flows. Built end-to-end by Jens Infotech for the Australian market. Live across Sydney and Melbourne with dozens of restaurants onboard, customers ordering daily.
An Australian founder wanted to launch a food-ordering network in Sydney as an alternative to Uber Eats and DoorDash. The pain point: restaurants were paying 30%+ commission to those platforms, and small/independent restaurateurs were getting squeezed. He wanted a marketplace that took 8-12% — not 30% — by being lean.
Two-sided product: customer apps for ordering + restaurateur web dashboard for menu, orders, dispatch. He had the GTM plan and the local restaurant relationships. He needed a partner to ship the tech end-to-end — design, dev, launch, app store submission, ongoing iteration. We took the whole thing.
Customer side — Native-feel iOS + Android apps (built with React Native for shared codebase), restaurant discovery with location filter, menu browsing with photos and dietary tags (veg, gluten-free, halal — important for Sydney's diverse market), cart and checkout with Stripe Australia, order tracking, ratings, repeat-order shortcuts.
Restaurateur side — Web dashboard for menu management (drag-drop reordering, time-window availability, "sold out" toggles per item), order kitchen-display screen optimised for tablet, payout tracking with Stripe Connect, basic analytics (which items convert, which time slots are dead).
Logistics — Pickup-first model (customer drives to the restaurant). Optional delivery via partnered courier API integrations. Lower complexity than building our own delivery fleet, faster path to GMV.
Time zone collaboration. Mumbai-Sydney is 4.5-5 hours apart. We solved it with a strict daily standup at 8:30am IST (1pm AEST) and asynchronous Loom-video updates for everything else. The founder said it was the smoothest cross-border project he'd run.
App Store submission. Apple's review process for marketplaces is brutal — they push back on everything. We pre-empted the common rejections (4.2 minimum functionality, 3.1.1 in-app purchase rules, 5.1.1 data collection consent) by building those flows correctly from day one. Approved on first submission. That alone saved 3-4 weeks.
GST/tax handling for Australia. Different from India's GST — flat 10% across the board, but invoice format requirements specific to Australia. We built a tax-engine layer that's now reusable across our other international clients.
We initially built a delivery-courier-matching algorithm (route optimisation, courier ranking, etc.). The founder pivoted to pickup-only after the first 30 days because Sydney customers were happy to drive 5-10 minutes for cheaper food. The whole delivery layer is sitting in the codebase, dormant, ready to switch on if/when he expands. Lesson learnt: ship the v1 lean, build the optionality, but don't deploy what the market hasn't asked for yet.
"The app is great. However, customer service is sensational. Jens picked up the phone at 9pm Sydney time when our payment gateway broke during a Saturday night rush. They had a fix deployed in 40 minutes. I will strongly recommend it to anyone." — Founder, Dial Your Meal · Sydney
